Restock Ban or Random Glitch? This morning, when I logged on to Neo, I opened my group of bookmarked tabs, which includes several shops. Everything was normal - shops had stock. But, when I did my first shop refresh, the shop had nothing, like on half-price day. Citrix ucsf. The same thing happened with every other shop I RFed or clicked on.

The attic has a chance to restock every 7 minutes. The way this works now is it will go off the previous time it restocked. So if it restocked at 3:35:40, it has a chance to go again at 3:42:40ish (with a certain time frame that it may go, looks to be about 10 seconds before and up to 30 seconds after). In a Neopets restock war, milliseconds matter. It was basically high-frequency trading, except performed by millions of children instead of bots. As an adult, I now recognize the profit from restocking is basically the equivalent of scalping.

Perhaps the simplest way to earn quick Neopoints without a great deal of experience on the site is to play games. One can easily earn 30,000 NP or more per day without too much time invested this way, but first you have to figure out which games you are best at, which you don't mind playing repeated, and which you can earn 3,000 NP from each day. As a quick reminder, the maximum amount of Neopoints a game can give out when you submit a game score is 1,000. You can submit three scores per day for a total of 3,000 NP per game per day. When you play the Featured Game of the day, you only need half of the usual score needed to earn the same 1,000 NP.

So, by playing ten or more games three times per day, you can earn 30,000 NP or more per day without too much hassle. On a scale of 1-10 when rating ease of earning, this is about a 5. While the rewards are instant, they require time and skill and patience. Trust us when we tell you.. playing the same games over and over again, day after day, for as much time as is needed to earn 3,000 NP from each can become VERY tedious, VERY fast.

Perhaps the slowest, but easiest way to earn Neopoints is to invest in the Neopian Stock Market. Here, you buy up to 1000 shares of a certain stock which is selling at 15 NP or more per share. Wise investors purchase 15,000 NP worth of stocks every day, and when the shares rise in value to 60 NP or more each, they sell them, thus earning 45,000+ NP just by waiting.

The downside to investing is that it can take anywhere from six months to a year and a half for any particular stock to reach the 60 NP/share selling point.. sometimes less, depending on the stock and when in its cycle you purchased it. The Art of Shopping!

Without a doubt the fastest way to millions of Neopoints, restocking is an art unto itself. The reason that restocking is so rarely done, however, is because it requires four things - a fast Internet connect, quick reflexes, a lot of patience, and an expert knowledge of what items sold by one or more shops in particular are worth infinitely more than they're sold for.

Essentially, no item can be sold in any shop for more than 99,999 Neopoints. In official Neopets shops (e.g., the ones NOT run by Neopians), the items are sometimes worth less than they're selling for, but are sometimes worth more, and rarely worth a LOT more. Some of the rarest items sold today in Neopia's shops are worth well over 25,000,000 Neopoints (such as the ARGH! Donna Stamp, which is worth a cool 40 Million Neopoints if ever you can snatch one). Others, which are slightly easier to find can sell for hundreds of thousands of Neopoints or more, depending on the item's rarity and general demand.

Now, as if knowing what items you were looking for wasn't hard enough, you have to wait until one of the seven or so times each hour that the shop randomly restocks with items based on their rarity. And then, if you are fortunate enough to be there when a valuable item pops up, you not only have to click on it quickly, you have to haggle with the shopkeeper by entering a price that's lower than what he/she was asking for, but high enough for him/her to accept it right away. THEN you have to click on the Neopet that appears on the image below the haggle box as quickly as possible. If you have somehow managed to do all of that before anyone else, you'll have hopefully just purchased something worth a great deal more than what you paid for it. Congratulations!

Open a web browser and navigate to the Cisco Software Downloads webpage.

Cineform: a Great Intermediate Codec

I love CineForm! I use it a lot. I don't miss ProRes at all. CineForm is an extremely versatile codec that can accommodate multiple wrappers while maintaining higher quality at lower bitrates than ProRes. It even has its own variation of compressed RAW. Making CineForm an economical fit in many existing post workflows.

You don't have to take my word for it. Back in 2014, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, standardized GoPro's CineForm codec, dubbing it ST 2073 VC-5, the new open standard for video acquisition and post production. If that wasn't enough GoPro has publicly stated it's intent to support Cineform, making it better as the years go by.

'SMPTE standardization of the GoPro CineForm codec as the new VC-5 standard is big news for the entire production and post production industry, as well as for GoPro and its customers,” said David Newman, senior director of software engineering for GoPro. “By further developing the VC-5 standard, we are building a new ecosystem for the industry in which we’re enabling cinema-level acquisition quality, while also providing cinematographers the workflow technology to finish their films. We are standardizing core codec technologies, and making them extensible to even support future camera formats and future post production workflows.'

I have noticed that it is hard to find the bitrate information for CineForm. I've taken the liberty of providing the table below for your reference:

I used Cineform codec for years. IMO it is a great master codec for Windows/PPro machines- fast, easy to digest, lossless. The only issue is the very large file size, but if storage is not a problem, you could hardly do better than Cineform. He then converts it to GoPro Cineform using GoPro Studio for editing in FCP X. But, when he exports the footage it looks terrible; green horizontal lines running throughout the frame. GoPro Cineform is a high-quality codec, similar to ProRes and DNxHD, in that it is optimized for high quality and efficient editing.

I encourage others to embrace CineForm so that it will gain in popularity in relation to other intermediate mezzanine codecs like ProRes and DNxHD/HR. It's high quality, efficient compression, and overall versatile. I can see CineForm becoming a mainstay in many post production pipelines for the years to come. CineForm is my go to working and mastering format.

This has been the role of CineForm even before its acquisition by GoPro in 2011. The CineForm compression format was designed for speed on personal computers, so it could bridge the gap between a cutting-edge camera and the existing computer hardware that needed to present the images. CineForm has stayed well ahead of the video standards which take a long time to arrive in hardware, from our laptops to our smartphones. For the upcoming Fusion, just like with Omni, the video is stitched after capture using CineForm to hold more than today's standards can deliver.
Since it is so clearly evident that CineForm is crucial to advancing 360° imaging, GoPro is open-sourcing it to help third-party software developers accelerate high-resolution 360 and future workflows. Introduction

Many people do not use Traktor because by default it does not broadcast to shoutcast streams. Shoutcast is by far the most popular stream format used by internet radio. Traktor can only broadcast to icecast streams. Therefore we need to setup an private icecast server and a program to convert the icecast stream into a shoutcast stream.
This document is a work in progress.

You will need to install the following software:

Important note: I recommend using the rare VIP edition because it fixes low frequency distortion problems that are present in version 3.1.11
You can install these on seperate computers or on the same computer. For the purposes of this tutorial I will assume you have installed the various software on one machine.

Configuration

First we will setup the Icecast server.
Then we will setup Stream Transcoder to receive audio from the Icecast server and connect to another shoutcast server, for example the internet radio station.
Then we will setup Traktor to broadcast to the Icecast server.

I might be able to simplify these configuration files but atm it's based on my actual configuration that I don't want to mess up. After setting up a testing system I will revise these to the most minimal configuration.

In 2010 LSU, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, and the state of Louisiana recognized an opportunity to improve patient care and Graduate Medical Education (GME) in Baton Rouge. A public-private partnership ensued whereby patient care efforts and LSU-sponsored GME programs were transferred to Our Lady of the Lake in the spring of 2013. Bugbear Entertainment Ltd., developers of the Flat Out Series, Sega Rally Revo, and Ridge Racer Unbounded, are the minds behind some of the most successful racing games in the industry and have come up with something a little different… With a different sort of title. Next Car Gameis pure demolition racing destruction served up in a tasty package, and this is only the Beta version.

The Basics

Next Car Game supports keyboard or game controller play, and the keyboard controls are well-laid out and easily learned. The arrow keys take care of movement, while others allow the player to Shift their viewpoint from straight ahead to a rear view (more useful than in most car games), (C)hange the camera view, pull the handbrake, etc.

The concept is simple- be the last car rolling out of a field of up to 24 contenders. Players can enter a demolition derby arena or partake in a number of races staged on gravel or tarmac surfaces. The grease-monkey gladiators attempt to win the day by a combination of aggression, strategy, and a little bit of luck.

Since this is an early access release, the options are limited. Initially, the player can choose from two types of cars- American and European, both RWD. The game does include a manual or automatic shifting mode and other driving assist features like traction control, anti-spin, and ABS. Many of the other options like upgrading and buying and selling cars are disabled at this point. In-game, a damage indicator registers hits to the front, sides, and rear of the car. As damage increases, these blips go from yellow to orange to red before your car is completely disabled. The rest of the HUD is equally simple. You have a combined speedo/tachometer that also indicates which gear you’ve selected.

As stated before, there are only three tracks available. The arena is quite fun, and the more conventional venues present added challenge because you’re not only trying to win, you’re competing against homicidal AI cars that would just as soon bash you as pass you.

Both types of cars have adequate power to get out of their own way if necessary, although this is more complicated in a cage with up to 23 other metal missiles hurtling around wreaking havoc.

The Bottom Line

I found the keyboard controls to be adequate for the arena, but a little touchy for racing. Next Car Gamers will definitely want to consider a game pad for better control if they intend to do most of their damage on the track. Without upgrades, even the little European coupes can get squirrely in the chicanes.

The cars themselves look like they’ve seen many laps on different tracks. Instead of the polished super cars prevalent in other games, the rides in Next Car Game look like those you’d see in lesser stock car or dirt track races. From the myriad sponsor mini-stickers to the dull gleam of the metal, from the dents to the rusty panels these no-nonsense cars look the part.

Bugbear promised a total overhaul of the physics in their racing engine, and in Next Car Game they’ve delivered.

In addition to the nice lighting and textures which are pretty much a given these days, Next Car Game features outstanding realism and incredible details. Whether you’re in the arena or on a track, car damage takes a toll on your vehicle. Especially in a race, even relatively minor hits can seriously affect performance. Take a shot to the front of your vehicle and you’ll notice your engine straining against the extra resistance of damaged parts and crumpled metal. Take a hard enough shot in the side and the frame will crumple, spider-webbing the glass. Get hit in the rear and your muffler may be twisted up in the air or drag on the ground while your back seat becomes your trunk.

The level of Bugbear’s commitment to carnage becomes most apparent in the arena. Flying shards of metal, smoke, and fire quickly fill the space as cars rack up damage against one another. About halfway through the match, it gets pretty difficult to distinguish threats from disabled vehicles as the center of the arena becomes a twisted mess of smoking, burning hunks of what used to be entrants.

If outright realism is Bugbear’s goal, though, they still have a bit of work to do. In one match, the entire front of my car was gone- I mean gone, no apparent front axle, engine bay, or driver’s compartment for that matter. I’m not complaining; it was fun to continue when in the real world I would’ve been a pulpy mass crumpled inside the lost half of my car.

The graphics in Next Car Game allow for a wide range of resolution, anisotropy, and AA adjustments so the game will run well on just about any system, even AMD APUs should do OK. Intel folks will need a discrete card. The POS managed low 40s in most cases, dropping to low 30s at 1440 X 900 with medium details, max anisotropy, and no AA when the action got really intense. As you can see in the screen shots, there was quite a bit of aliasing going on. I also noticed some clipping on review of the screen shots.

Music and sound effects are limited in the Beta release, although the basic noises of vehicular collision are there in profusion.

Replay value, as in all racing games, is high. Bugbear is still working out the details on multiplayer structure, but suffice it to say that the excitement of demolition derby will be exponentially increased when you get to send your friends tumbling through the air.

Even though this is an early access version, I found no obvious glitches in the game. Aside from the limited options, Next Car Game already looks like a decently polished product. Unlike some early access efforts that hobble around like the video-game version of Long John Silver in a marathon, this title is already almost ready already. All the basic elements work right; players can look forward to an outstanding finished game.

The Verdict

Aside from the twitchy controls and current lack of options, I can find little wrong with this title. There seems to be a bit of work to do on object collision, but it’s nothing you’ll notice as you’re doing cartwheels over other racers. Likewise, the possibility of mangled car pieces soldiering on may need to be addressed in the interest of accuracy. Hopefully, based on player feedback Bugbear may tweak the controls (there’s always the choice to go with a game pad), and additional game mechanics and content are in the pipe.
